Reddit is a platform where you can ask questions, leave comments and recommendations, and discuss many different things.
From educational to entertainment to worldwide news to memes. The topics you’ll find there are very varied. Basically, there are Reddit threads for many different audiences.
This means that there are forums and threads for Spanish learning!
This could be a good opportunity to ask your doubts or answer things you know and share your knowledge with other Spanish learners. Or to simply read the comments that are already there, so you can learn something.
The best of all, is that in many groups there are also native Spanish-speakers! So you can ask their questions, and they can answer.
YouTube
This is an amazing free resource for all fanatics of watching videos.
Many people already spend hours online watching videos or listening to music on YouTube. So why not keep doing something you like but use it as a tool for learning something new?
You can watch YouTubers that are also experts in the Spanish language try to teach it and share their knowledge online. But if that’s not very engaging for you, you can also look for Spanish speaking YouTubers from any content that you love. If you like what you’re watching or listening to, you’ll enjoy learning.
For example: If you love traveling, look for Hispanic travel vloggers.
You’ll improve your listening, learn pronunciation, and acquire vocabulary in a fun way.
Read News
Reading news from Spanish speaking countries, it’s a great exercise to improve your Spanish skills.
You’ll learn grammar and writing, acquire vocabulary, and improve your reading comprehension. If you read the news out loud, you’ll also practice your pronunciation and speaking.
But that’s not it! Reading news from Hispanic countries will also let you know more about their everyday lives, about what’s going on, and even about their culture. You’ll stay informed while learning.
You can use newspapers in Spanish, magazines or Hispanic news’ websites.
Lotería
“Lotería” is a traditional Mexican board game.
It consists of many small cards with one different picture on each one. The pictures also have the name of the object shown there. For example: If one card has the image of a mermaid, it’ll also say “sirena”, which is mermaid in Spanish.
Then, there are also bigger cards or boards that have 16 squares with a different picture in each square. The images in these boards are like the ones on the small cards. But not all the images from the small cards are in one single board.
You must give one board to each player. The boards are different, not one is the same. Then one person will be the one designated to show the small cards one by one, while saying the name of the image. This person won’t play.
As the players see the images, they must look on their board to see if they have the picture that’s been shown at that moment. If they do have it, they should mark it with a bean.
The first person to mark his/her whole board, wins!
It’s a very fun game. But it goes beyond that; it works for vocabulary learning, because you have to pay close attention to the words that are being said. And because the image is also shown, your brain will connect that that word is the name of that image in Spanish.
You’ll also learn pronunciation. And if you’re the one showing the small cards and saying the words out loud, you’ll also practice speaking! What a cool way to learn vocabulary!
You can either look for the images online and print them or make the “loteria” yourself. You can also look for a free app to play “lotería”.
